Street Cleaning

Street cleaning isn't supposed to start until April... so why is there a cleaning vehicle going up and down my street? There have been no tickets issued as far as I can see. Is this just a rouge cleaner or am I missing something?

There's enough trash on the street that it's a good thing. I've been looking at all the crap left after garbage pickup and thinking about just cleaning up myself. Are they just going up and down the street?

He's swerving around where ever he can... leaving a nice oil slick behind him. He's made about 5 passes so far. Heh, they're never this thorough during the summer.

I believe the dark stain behing street cleaning vehicles is caused by water, not oil.

I live over near Union Sq and the streetsweeper's been out here as well a few times this past week. I keep going out expecting to see a ticket on my car.

I called DPW and asked about that when we saw them on our street. They've been sending out the sweepers on a weather-permitting basis, but they're not towing until street-sweeping season starts for real in April.

sorry, found this late. they always do this as the weather warms (been here 11 years now). it gives the dpw a head start on spring and their battle to get all the sand up out of the gutters. the more they can get up now before the spring rains really start, the less sand will clog the drains and cause flooding in your basements!

they can't ticket/tow until the official street cleaning season - as others have pointed out.
