"Knight Moves" board-game café proposed for Teele Square

Brookline's Knight Moves, which describes itself as "New England's only board game café", proposes to open a second location at 1159 Broadway in Teele Square. The store would provided non-alcoholic refreshments for board gamers who would pay a daily or monthly fee to play there.

Here are the planning staff report and an interior blueprint.

A Boston.com article says that Knight Moves will have a BYOB policy, though I see no mention of that in the city's report EDIT: has now been edited to say that Somerville does NOT allow BYOB and that this new location has no plans to offer that option.

Here's a Somerville Journal article about the proposed cafe.

Don't know what it is but it sounds cool

Certainly a lot more interesting than the "90 second pizza" place slated for the Singer storefront.
(I love pizza but I also have patience)

A coffeeshop/cafe with a large board game library open to anyone paying $10/day or $40/month for unlimited playing time. A bit pricey but it's a very clever idea.

Yeah, Oath Pizza makes tons of sense in South Station where people are waiting for trains leaving soonish and thus food must be quick, but seems weird in DS.

Totally excited about Knight Moves, though.

I've been to their existing location and it was awesome! It's a great way to try out new games that you're considering buying, and the staff is knowledgeable and helpful. (e.g. "Oh, you like co-op resource-management games without a bluffing component? Then try this game.") I'd definitely go there more than never if it was in the neighborhood.

Looking forward to having them on this side of the river.
