Poutine

A freezing day like this reminds me to share my recent discovery that poutine has been added to the menu at Eat At Jumbo's in Ball Square. Comfort soaked in gravy.

The owner told me (when I asked) that he unfortunately doesn't have local access to authentic cheese curds (the ones from Trader Joe's suck). But he substitutes what he described to me as "Vermont cabot," whatever that may be, and the flavor and consistency is similar to what I've had in Montreal. Gooey. Greasy. Glorious.

FYI, All-Star Sandwich Bar in Inman Square also features Poutine. (Yes, technically on the Cambridge side of the line, but only by a block or two.)

All Star's "poutine" doesn't even have cheddar cheese, it has herbs, and the fries are too thin. I'll give them credit for the free oreos and the delicious sandwiches though.

yeah, i went there with some friends for brunch one day and they ordered it as an app for the table to share...it was okay for a hangover snack but...crumbly tasteless cheese + jarred gravy + thin mcdonalds-like fries != poutine :/

Agreed. That was not poutine. But they are the only place in the outside-of-Western-New-York universe that I've found Beef on Weck, so I must give them love for that. (And it's decent, with nice strong horseradish!)

Gargoyle's briefly had poutine on the bar menu. It was excellent. I definitely have to make a trip out to Ball Square, though.
