Help! I lost my phone! It was attached to a giant mylar balloon...

I realize I could have seen this coming.   An experiment in aerial photography gone wrong.  

My phone is now floating somewhere in the Ball Square / Davis Square area.   It went up an hour ago and there's not much wind -- I expect it will come down somewhere in Somerville before the end of the day.    If you happen to find it, please get in touch!  

My email's katie.gradowski [at] gmail.com, or you can email partsandcrafts [at] gmail.com -- I'll leave it enabled until the end of the day on the off chance that someone finds it and tries to return it.   You'll recognize it by the giant mylar balloon attached, or the sticker on the back that says "Katie"

It probably should be noted that mylar balloons can last a week or more if not popped. Maybe you'll get lucky and it will get stuck under a porch roof or something. But I'm thinking this is more likely to end up in the "cautionary tales" logbooks.

What kind of phone was it? There are some good smartphone apps you can use to track/find a lost phone, some that you can even install after you've already lost the phone. Actually, since it's floating anyway, she should just set up an automated script and make it ring constantly. If you can't find your phone, you might as well screw with people.

There are probably similar apps for other smartphones.

Awesome! I just posted to Medford / Woburn / Everett papers to see if anyone had sighted it. No word yet -- hopefully it'll come back to us!

If it does, and if the camera didn't a) get rained on, or b) fall in the river, I'll post the video for everyone to see.

Any update?

Somerville Patch ran an article last week saying that the 'balloon' is actually a "mylar sleeping bag filled with helium, sealed with duct tape and rubber bands", and that the camp counselor "in an attempt to tether the balloon, accidentally let go of the end and let it go floating skyward."
