Any one know what all the sirens and helicopters hovering around are? We can't see them from our porch, but have been hearing them since before 6am. Haven't seen anything on any news site yet....

I found this in an e-mail from the Community Growing Center:

East Cambridge Savings Bank will be hosting Community Shred Day on Saturday June 25. We are very pleased that East Cambridge Savings Bank has chosen the Growing Center to be the recipient of any donations made at the event - we will have a table there so clear out some clutter and come on by!

Community Shred Day
Saturday, June 25 from 3-5 pm
Location: East Cambridge Savings Bank, 285 Highland Avenue, Somerville (corner of Highland and Cedar)

This event offers Somerville residents the opportunity to discard unwanted documents in a secure and eco-friendly manner, free of charge. All documents will be shredded on site. The Bank will be offering food and drink, giveaways (while supplies last) and musical entertainment for participants.

Somerville residents interested in a night of social action and rock and roll are invited to come out Wed., June 29th, for a mid-week benefit titled “Johnny D’s End Homelessness Bash”. The benefit will be held at Somerville restaurant Johnny D’s, located on 17 Holland Street. Funds are being raised in support of the Metropolitan Boston Regional Network to End Homelessness, a regional systems change project that fosters innovation and housing based solutions to homelessness. Some non-profit organizations who partner with MBN are the Somerville Homeless Coalition, Housing Families, Inc., Pine Street Inn, United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley, and Somerville Community Corporation.

The event begins at 8:00 p.m.; with rock-Americana band Loose Change taking the stage. A donation of $15 per person is suggested. All proceeds will benefit the MBN in support of preventing and ending homelessness among the Metro Boston region's most vulnerable households. Sponsorships are available for interested parties, and include 10 admissions each, starting at $250. Support cutting edge ideas in the fight against homelessness, while enjoying a fun night out. For more information on this event, please contact Kristina Hals of the Metro Boston Regional Network to End Homelessness at 617-449-8115, or kristinahals at gmail dot com.

Need a baby stroller and don't mind washing some dust off it?

Need 12 quarts of 10W-40 motor oil? How about 2 quarts of 10W-30 synthetic motor oil? (Yes, unused!)

Then come get them off my porch at 80 Prichard Ave (see icon). Please take all of the oil, or at least all of one kind or the other.

Help needed with two things:

1. Good place to sell a keyboard and amp.

2. Organization that might help with a one-time payment on a storage unit.

Otherwise, insert usual community banter here:
