Hi I checked the tags and didn't see exactly what I was looking for.

Does anyone know of a good place to get curly hair cut?

I lived in the Davis Square area years ago and recently moved back, and it seemed like there has been a lot of changes since I lived here. I was walking down Mass Ave, between Porter and Harvard, and it seemed like there were a ton of new places.

I'm willing to pay up to $45 dollars for a really good cut. I was also thinking of maybe getting some color done, but I'm not as concerned about that. The cut is more of a priority. I'm looking kind of shaggy here, folks.

i got a good (bouncy, short) cut from michelle at salon femia, she asked for my input a lot during the process so it came out just right. if i'm remembering right i think it was about $35.

Although I don't know much about their work with curly hair in particular, I've had good experiences at DHR Stylists in Harvard Square. They have prices in the range you're looking for, and a number of my friends like them as well. Plus, the guys are a lot of fun and very friendly, without being nosy.

Umberto at Salon CU in Ball Square is amazing and cheap and does a good on job at $30 as the $90 cuts I'd gotten from curly specialists in Harvard.

Second the recommendation for Salon Cu. I go to Carlo, but everyone there is pretty good.

Dana at Salon M. It's $45 last I was there, it's one of the Mass Ave between Porter and Harvard places, he's hilarious, and he understands curls.

They do color there too but I haven't had that done, so I can't speak to that.

( naturallycurly.com is also a good resource for questions like this; it's how I found Dana.)

I'll second Dana, but also add Horatio at Safar, if you were willing to go a bit more spendy. Best cuts I've ever had, and they grew out really well. I've got long corkscrew curls that tend to be challenging for stylists.

I'll third Dana--I can't remember if I heard about him from a friend, or found him on naturallycurly.com, but he's a great hairdresser & a total sweetheart. :-)

Laurel (or maybe Lauren?) at Pyara is very good with curly cuts.

Not in Davis, but the more the merrier: Derek at Liquid Hair in the South End is great for curlies, and $45.

As one with very thick curly long hair, I'll fourth Dana (a friend turned me on to naturallycurly.com, too) I used to think any ol' cut would work cuz the curls just do their thing anyway, but he showed me there was more to it then that. Very reasonable price.
And if you want to hear more about what Harvard Square was like in the hippie era, ask him about hanging out in Cambridge Common in the late 60's, and the Free School, where Broadway Bicycle now is.
