Hello, this is Jackie Rossetti with important snow emergency information for Tuesday, March 13.

The snow emergency will be lifted effective at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, March 14. Beginning at 7 a.m., vehicles parked in any city or school lot will have two hours to move out of the lot. Vehicles not moved from lots by 9 a.m. Wednesday will be ticketed and towed so that City crews can safely plow. Parking meters will go into effect at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Once the snow emergency has been lifted, parking permit stickers must be visible within 24 hours, and cars must be cleared and shoveled out within 48 hours.

Property owners are also reminded that sidewalks not shoveled within 6 daylight hours of the end of snowfall are subject to ticketing each day until the sidewalk is clear. By 1 p.m. Wednesday, sidewalks must be cleared to a 3-foot-wide path down to the pavement, and snow may not be shoveled into the street. We encourage you to also pre-treat sidewalks to prevent ice from forming overnight due to melting snow.

DPW makes every effort to clear bike lanes citywide, but please be advised that conditions could be hazardous and lanes subject to drifting and icing. Please proceed with caution and consider using the main travel lanes or alternate transit.

On Wednesday, March 14, all Somerville Public Schools will be closed. City offices will be open for normal business hours. Somerville Public Libraries will open at 11 a.m. Somerville Recreation will host public skating at the Veterans’ Memorial Rink on Somerville Ave. from noon to 3 p.m., and Open Gym in the Somerville High School gymnasium from noon to 4 p.m. for all interested children and families.

While our crews will also work to shovel out fire hydrants and catch basins, if you are able, we greatly appreciate any help with this as well.

As a reminder, trash pickup continues and is delayed by one day for the rest of the week. Trash and recycling on Wednesday morning will be for the regular Tuesday route.

If you have a non-emergency question, please call 311 (or 617-666-3311 from outside the city).
