Can anyone advise on Sprint vs. T-Mobile in terms of reception quality in this area? I'm less interested in your experiences with their customer service and such, but of course, I can't stop you from posting that stuff anyway ;) so have at it.

I have T-Mobile at present and received a pretty tempting promotional offer to switch to Sprint, but I'm leery on the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" principle. I've never had much trouble with T-Mobile reception (or customer service). Am I going to have reception issues with Sprint?

I have no experience with either service, but I had to say: great icon for Towel Day!

I'm also a very big fan of "don't fix what's not broken" and of T-Mobile as well.

If you've been a customer for a while, maybe give them a call and tell them you received an interesting offer from Sprint and see if they'll match it or come close enough.

I have Sprint and I'm very happy with them. I hardly ever notice problems with coverage, and the customer service reps I've dealt with have always been very helpful and friendly. I live in North Cambridge and spend a lot of time in Davis and Beacon Hill, and I really only deal with a lack of signal when I'm underground.

I can't compare it to T-Mobile, but I think Sprint is awesome.

One important question: Will you be using a data plan?

We tried to switch to T-Mobile a year or two ago, but found the reception where we live -- Ball Square-- (couldn't make calls from inside the apt) and worked -- downtown, Arlington T stop area -- at the time unacceptable and returned the phones, going back to ATT.

We've just recently switched to CREDO (http://www.credomobile.com/), which uses the Sprint network, and we love it. Mostly we love CREDO, but the service is perfectly fine, no problems. (Well, one small problem: sometimes text messages take a little long to show up. Not sure if this is phones, provider, or network and haven't asked about it yet.)

I've had sprint in this area for years, and their coverage has gotten a lot better. For Boston, coverage seems fine for me (there are a few random spots I go roam, like my friend's living room), but when you leave Boston it can get spotty. Places in western MA are mostly roam. I mainly stick with them because my parents haven't kicked me off their plan yet. But I use it as my primary phone with no real issues.

My cell carrier uses Sprint towers, and I've always had signal except when I'm actually underground. That's true for Boston around South Station and Copley, all of Somerville, all of Cambridge, up into southern New Hampshire, west at least as far as Newton, and in most of eastern Connecticut.

I've used Sprint for the last 8 years. It has good coverage in North Cambridge, Davis Square, and most of Arlington. Coverage in Belmont is extremely spotty--when I can get any signal at all inside a building, it's standing in one corner touching the phone antenna to the window frame. (Some bus shelters are enough to block the signal, but not always.) Coverage is also bad in Stoughton, but there is reliable roaming service in Canton. Service is generally pretty good in Burlington, for what it's worth.

I have Sprint, I don't have any problems with it in Boston anywhere that I've been. I live in Prospect Hill area, no problems with reception at all. My phone does work underground in some places -- North Station, Haymarket, Government Center, Park, Davis Square, Harvard Square, Central and Kendall, which is super convenient. They have some cool phones also, I'm personally in love with the Pre.

They're releasing the first 4G phone ever on June 4th. Very exciting.
