I belong to Planet Fitness in Porter Square.  I can't get radio reception on my Ipod Nano in the gym, at least not WBUR.  I guess this is because it is one floor down.  Is this a universal experience?  Just wondering if others with different devices have better luck.  Can't beat the Planet Fitness price but having the radio really helps the workout go faster.   I'm tired of all my music- I guess I could load podcasts onto my Nano.

Podcasts are a great solution. I think every WBUR show is available via podcast at http://www.wbur.org/listen/podcasts . I listen at the gym all the time and love that I can pick up where I left off the day before.

I second the vote for podcasts. Here's a short list of podcasts I recommend, apart from all the great ones available from WBUR:
RadioLab (http://www.radiolab.org/series/podcasts/) -- Geeking about all sorts of scientific topics. The thing about RadioLab is that they ask a lot of questions that nobody knows the answers to, and the fun is in exploring the possibilities.
New Yorker Fiction (http://www.newyorker.com/online/podcasts/fiction) -- Stories from the New Yorker chosen and read by writers who've had stories published in the New Yorker.
The Moth (http://feeds.themoth.org/themothpodcast) -- You've probably heard some of The Moth on WBUR, so you know the deal: "true stories told live without notes."
Hearing Voices (http://www.npr.org/rss/podcast/podcast_detail.php?siteId=89697159) -- a great variety of interesting and in-depth NPR stories.
and Selected Shorts (http://www.npr.org/rss/podcast/podcast_detail.php?siteId=9911210) -- More fiction, but you probably are already familiar with this too.

I have been spending a lot of time listening to podcasts lately, so I have been downloading a lot of stuff.

Recommended: Kevin and Ursula Eat Cheap (free, available on iTunes)
Stuff You Should Know and Stuff You Missed in History Class from How Stuff Works
NPR does Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me, This American Life, and Car Talk

Also? I just signed up for Audible.com so I could listen to a recommended book. (The Game, by Neil Strauss). They are doing discounted plans for it right now, so I got that book for free.

If you happen to have a smart phone, you can stream WBUR. I get decent 3G reception in PF. Not sure about other networks.

Also If you have a Smartphone and a XM/Sirius subscription you can listen to that down there. I work out to Opie and Anthony all the time.
