Recycling in general is a no-brainer (I think) and I fully support it.
However, there is a very small amount of material in styrofoam (hence the light weight), so only very small amounts of recoverable plastic to be put to reuse.
So my point is: please make sure you'll use fewer resources bringing your styrofoam than will be gained from it. My guess is this probably means only do it by car if you're passing anyway, or walk or bike to the place.
Of course landfill is an issue too, so recycling avoids that.
To my mind the above is also a good reason we should be trying to phase out styrofoam.
I'm all for Somerville banning Styrofoam take-out containers but really appreciate this event. The last time that the city had one was in August 2012 so some of us (esp. those who have no choice but to get prescriptions delivered monthly in large Styrofoam coolers) have collected enough to make it worth it. http://www.somervillema.gov/calendar/expanded-polystryene-recycling-event-styrofoam
