Boston-area Belly Dancers to hold Red Cross Benefit Sept. 25

Hurricane Hafli: Shimmy Down the Storm

The Northeast Belly Dance Association (Boston Chapter) is pleased to announce a benefit hafli (Arabic for party) to raise funds for the American Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund. Over 20 of the Boston area's finest dancers will perform in a showcase of the variety of styles of modern belly dance. Prizes will be auctioned and in between sets the dance floor will be open for all to participate, with DJ Garabed spinning.

The hafli will be held on Sunday, September 25 from 3:30pm to 7pm at the Dilboy VFW Post, 371 Summer Street, Somerville (Davis Square).
Suggested minimum donation is $15.

All of us have felt the emotional impact of Katrina, and were affected by the profound human suffering and loss as the stories of the Gulf Coast unfolded. As dancers, part of our art is to mesh music, movement and perhaps most of all emotion. As a community we pull on the strength of our artistic achievements to create something bigger than any one of us could create on our own. Together, we can shimmy down the storm to provide help to those so desperately in need.

The Northeast Belly Dance Association (NBDA), founded in 2003, is a social organization of dancers throughout the Northeast United States. The purpose of the NBDA is to bring together dancers throughout the Northeast, providing networking and performance opportunities for dancers of all levels. The NBDA has also sponsored workshops to further dancer education. This is the Boston Chapter's first official event after its formation in the summer of 2005.
