(can someone please tell me why the table cellpadding and cellspacing attributes are not working? I have both set to "5" but the table is displaying as if I hadn't specified them at all)

Congratulations to both of them. I think either of them would make a good alderman, and I look forward to their positive discussion on the future of Ward 6 over the next six-ish weeks.

The bunching up of #2-4 is interesting - it was very close.

Turnout was pathetic, as expected - but it seems even worse than it should have been. It is roughly 14.5%. In 2013 Ward 1 saw roughly 25% in their preliminary.

Congrats to the winners

I was going to suggest using css styles, rather than table tags, since the latter are out their way out, but styles are not supported in comments, only in original posts, according to the FAQ (http://www.livejournal.com/support/faq/72.html). However, you can see what it should look like here (http://wobblymusic.livejournal.com/981.html).

I'm just happy we won't have to deal with Chisholm and his crazy campaign manager.

It is amazing that this was so close -- not for the uber endorsed Lance, but between the other three.

I live just over the line in ward 7, so not as invested in this as everyone else, but definitely glad I won't be seeing more of Mr DiCosta's notion of "campaigning" around here. I think he might have done Chisholm more harm than good.

Unfortunately, I agree. I like a lot of Chisholm's ideas but I fear that his campaign manager's enthusiasm may have overshadowed Charlie's image a bit. He never answered my questions about why he was accusing Ron Newman of spreading rumors of his candidate being a pedophile, which is more than a little bizarre.

Charles is a very good person. When my mom had a stroke this week, I apologized and told him I couldn't phone bank that night. He cancelled phone banking and told me "There are some things that are more important." So you'll excuse me if I'm offended at the unfair shake that he has received here with people malignantly calling him xenophobic. It's one thing to have the opinion that Charles is anti-immigration because of a cursory read of newspapers from 1991-1993, but calling someone xenophobic and urging people not to vote for them is a serious allegation.

There were indeed a lot of whispers about Charles being a pedophile and someone literally went up to me and told me "Charles needs to ditch his line of twinks". Ron Newman seems to have a big bone to pick with Charles and he hasn't hid it very well. I never assertively accused him of spreading the rumors (I think I said you are probably the same person), but if it was implied I'm sorry. I was very upset at the time.

BUT calling me crazy (as many have in another thread) because of a few heated posts on a forum that I posted after I was angry because of the ripping down of many campaign invitations (by what could be Lance Davis's crew) is just really horrible. You don't know anything about me.

You've all reminded me about why most people my age don't vote.

Thank you for following up and clarifying the bizarre rumors you mentioned earlier. I think that sort of homophobic behavior is disgusting.

I agree that it's a huge leap to state that Charles' stance -- which he clarified well -- on the Sanctuary City proposals in the 80s is tantamount to racism and xenophobia.

By no means do I think you are "crazy", but I think a lot of people here seemed taken aback by the anonymous anti-Lance leaflets they received. You clearly have a lot of passion for your candidate, and I applaud that. I think the reason a lot of people in their 20s don't vote is a lack of passion and a feeling of uninvolvement. I hope you'll stay involved.

Thanks, Teko!

By the way, the leaflets weren't supposed to be anonymous. I was surprised to see people saying that.

That was a rookie mistake by me with my first foray into politics. We meant to put Charles' name at the end but ran out of room (we did the pamphlet last minute the night before-- we were supposed to just do the hangers). We assumed that people would realize it was from Charles, because it was right near his hanger. And we put out a direct mailing that said almost the same thing as the yellow fliers.

People with Lance Davis signs were not supposed to get anything (not the yellow pieces or the hangers), but some of the people passing out fliers obviously didn't listen to my instructions.

I didn't get one -- my side of Davis wasn't leafletted at all, nor did I get the direct mailing -- but I think that if his name had been on it as a sort of call to action it would've been fine. Without his name it was more off-putting, like someone was passing out propaganda with no attribution. Just my two cents.

I get that, but I didn't think of that at midnight the night before. The whole point was that Lance was taking a lot of big contributions, some of them from unemployed people, which was odd (because what kind of unemployed person has $1,000 to throw away). And he said he would support a measure to limit campaign contributions to $250.

"We ran out of room" then "I didn't think of that at midnight the night before" and also "people passing out fliers obviously didn't listen to my instructions." I'm surprised the dog didn't eat your homework during all this.

Speaking of homework, go look at the particulars of the play-to-pay ordinance and figure out how that differs from everyday campaign contributions. There are nuances there. I'm not even going to touch your notion of unemployed people throwing money away.

It isn't very difficult to figure out why Lance received most of these donations. The woman you are referring to ($1,000 donation, not employed) lives at the same address with a man sharing the same last name (so very likely her husband) who also donated $1,000 and has an occupation of Sr. Attorney. If you look at his and Lance's LinkedIn profile, you see that they worked together from 1999-2002. So he's a friend and former co-worker, not some evil real estate developer. The maximum that you can donate to a candidate in Massachusetts is $1,000, which is why that's what they each donated.

Good point. Thanks for saying it in a respectful manner without attacking me and being condescending.

You know, it's kind of hilarious that you complain about people attacking you or being disrespectful when you're claiming your opponent has nefarious motives.

"Lance Davis's crew". Damn! You have discovered Lance's unsuccessful foray into Welsh gangsta rap!

Professionals, tradespeople, business owners, parents, grandparents - mature grown-ups - these are the people who volunteer for Lance. The chance that any of these folks did something so childish as ripping down those signs is about as likely as Lance actually being a Welsh rapper.

Congratulations to Lance and Liz and kudos to Ron Newman for all his DSLJ efforts! If you see him at SomerStreets on Sunday, buy the man a lemonade!
