People were asking in an old thread from last month about Stairhoppers, the Somerville moving company I hired for my August 3 move. The news is that they're a great firm with very reasonable rates, a terrific crew with a great attitude, and a very hands-on, get-the-job-done manager. They arrived at my house about 15 or 20 minutes after the stated arrival time of 9 a.m. but once they got there, they really got the work done in a timely, efficient manner. I couldn't be more pleased and I would definitely hire them again.

I believe their website is at http://www.stairhoppers.com. The manager's name is Mona.

Stairhoppers were excellent for my July move! They were about 10 minutes late but finished 15 minutes early (So fast, it was only 1hr 45 minutes but I had to pay the 2 hour minimum). They honored the low hourly rate I was quoted via phone & email and no problems moving from 2nd floor apt to 2nd floor apartment. They came in a big truck with a driver and three movers. They wrapped anything that might get scratched and knew how to get around tight corners. They worked quickly but did not rush. When we arrived at the new place they maneuvered the truck down the small one-way street and even parked carefully to avoid damaging overhanging branches of a large tree out front. Friendly, professional, and affordable. I'd recommend them to anyone. It's a great somerville company!

As a comment, every mover I've ever used considered the 'start time' as the time of departure from their offices, not the arrival time at the residence. That probably would explain the slight 'lateness' you both experienced.

Well, they apologized for being late and arrived after their stated arrival time... Anyway, it wasn't a problem for me.

I had very good experiences with Precision Moving (http://www.precisionmovingcompany.com) who moved us from Harvard/Central to Davis. It ended up being about half of what they'd quoted and they were professional as well.

Another vote for Stairhoppers. We used them yesterday for our move (a 2-br apartment with pretty big furniture, about 35 boxes of books, and a LOT of plain ol' STUFF) into a larger place in Cambridge. They arrived 15 minutes early and got started immediately, worked quickly and efficiently, and were very friendly the whole time, despite the heat. We had some problems once we got to the new place (don't get me started on the bureaucratic incompetence that is the Cambridge parking office) involving the lack of a moving permit and therefore the catch-as-catch-can parking situation we ended up with, but even with those limitations, they managed to parallel-park the truck on a narrow, one-way street, and they were very careful about overhanging trees while they were at it. Their estimate for time and cost was just about dead-on. While they don't exactly make moving FUN, as their slogan claims, it did make it less stressful and onerous.
