So I didn't have a need for swim wear until recently. At the end of summer. When it's going-off the racks in favor of fall gear.

Since I like the look of swim trunks, but have a female form, I need something for my upper-half. I don't trust myself to tie a bikini top correctly and not have it fly open (slash don't like that look for myself.) So I need a swim top that's more cloth than a bikini, but less than a long-sleeve shirt looking thing that I saw at Olympia Sports in the Pru.

I've also tried the City Sports in Downtown Crossing and Back Bay and nuzzled the summer clearance in two Marshalls.

So suggestions besides the other City Sports locations? If I can get to it on a monthly LinkPass and not have to bug a friend to drive me or pay-up for the commuter rail ride, that would be good.

Target had bathing suits a week or so ago. I think I saw tankinis.

Or check REI to see if they have any waterproof sports bras.

I HATE women's swimwear. So I wear a pair of black cotton girlshorts and a black sports bra. Ta-da! Looks like swimwear, looks good on your body, won't fall off the second you do anything more complicated than lie on a towel.

i don't know if online shopping works for you, but newport-news.com was having end-of-season closeouts on tankini tops that were pretty cheap....

Searching online was going to be my suggestion as well. Bonus for an online place that has a brick-and-mortar version (JC Penny, Sears, etc) so if it -doesn't- fit, you can exchange quasi easily.

Speedo sells decent two pieces where the top would probably suit what you are looking for. Amazon has them.

Agree 1000% with scarletdulcinea about women's swim suits. Did you look at sleeveless tops intended for yoga or running? I wear them over a sports bra with running shorts and am comfortable both in and out of the water.

I've seen them at City Sports, the fitness area at Target, REI ($$$ but snazzy).

Holy crap, really?! I had never considered this, but you are absolutely right. I could wear most of my gym clothes in and out of the water without penalty. Thanks for the idea!

This is my beachwear approach as well. Running shorts or board shorts with a yoga top.

Try Sports Authority in Assembly Square. They definitely still had quite a bit of men's swimwear as of this past weekend but I can't tell you what was left in the women's department.
