Hey [livejournal.com profile] davis_square! I'm starting up a new business in Arlington Center for Therapeutic Massage, Bodywork and Reiki, it's called Innovative Bodywork. While it's not located in Davis, it's a close neighbor so I hope you don't mind my asking for advice.

I'm looking for local hot spots with community posting boards. I've hit up Diesel and Whole Foods, but I'm wondering what other places you might suggest I try? What community boards do you tend to peruse?

To say "thank you" for your help I put a coupon under the cut!

Does anyone know about this place? I want to get a deep tissue massage and am venturing out of the davis square neighborhood as a trip to massage therapy works ended in me being poked repeatedly in the back at random  (not really worth the money).  Any other closer suggestions would be appreciated as well.....

Massage hasn't been a topic for awhile here so I thought I'd post a good experience I had with Bridget Devine at Right Turn, in Arlington Center (it's on the 77 bus line, right where Mass Ave intersects Broadway). She's usually out at the Thoreau club, which charges like $100/hour but on Sundays she works at Right Turn in Arlington and charges $65 for an hour-- and she went over that in my case!

Her email is [email protected] and I highly recommend her work.

Hi everyone --

Do any of y'all know of a massage therapy school in the area? I know many schools offer massages to the public performed by students (usually at a low-ish rate). I am hoping to find one either close to here; or really, anywhere T accessible. I did some searching on Google, but had trouble finding what I want.

Thanks in advance!!

A few years ago I moved my shoulder the wrong way too fast and got laid out by it, barely able to move. Since then, about once or twice a year, a lot of tension or even sleeping on it the wrong away can cause this pain to flare up, as it did yesterday evening. This is the worst it's ever been, it's in my neck, my shoulder and down into the middle or so of my spine, where it's never been before. I don't know if it's a knot or something that's gotten misaligned or what.

Who's a good person in the Davis Square area for me to see about this, preferably today? I can barely move or walk without bolts of searing pain and ibuprofen only helps a little bit. Covered by BCBS HMO, so if they're in-network, that'd be awesome, too.

After a long week at work, I'm looking to get an impromptu massage either today or tomorrow. The only place I've been around here is Massage Therapy Works, which I found to be just okay (I don't remember who my massage therapist was). Any other recommendations in the area in about the same price range, or if anyone particularly likes Massage Therapy Works, who do you recommend there? (specifically looking for therapeutic massage)

Does anyone know of a place to get cheap massages? Are there any massage schools in the area with student masseuses?

Thanks to everyone who responded to my request for a reputable and skilled masseuse. When I get the time, I'll be heading over to Urban Oasis. I like the sound of the place. Until then, I have a crammed schedule of work that'll no doubt create even more knots for them to work out.

Thanks again.

Can anyone recommend a good masseuse in the area? I'm looking for someone who's really good with the shoulders and upper back.

TIA

Can anyone recommend a good place/person for massages? (Looking not so much for "relaxing massage" as for "addressing tightness and knots from being on the computer all day.")

My lower back is killing me (not in the need-medical-attention way, just the gardening-all-weekend and then kayaking was a bit too much) and I was wondering if people knew where around the Cambridge/Somerville/Medford area I could get a good massage without having to have reserved it weeks ago. (Reasonable prices and Blue Cross/Blue Shield discount a plus, but not required.)

Any recommendations or negative recommendations?

i just moved to davis square. i know many of these have been asked, but i'll ask again. please feel free to offer advice on any or all of these!

1. i live near holland & simpson (near mr. crepe). i commute up 93N and am wondering what is the best way and time to get to the highway? i.e. no traffic (this inludes pedestrians and bikers). w/o traffic it takes me 5 min. to get to the highway going up to broadway, through powderhouse circle, then warner/harvard to 93. in the mornings lately, it has been taking me 15-20!! i have also tried broadway to 16E to 93, and also 15-20 min. is there a better time to leave?

1a. anyone want to carpool to the tewksbury area?

2. best dry cleaners nearby. reasonably priced b/c i have to do a whole pile.

3. good place to get a pedicure.

4. good place to get a massage.

5. cool ways to get exercise (e.g. dance studios, yoga, martial arts... very open to new things)

6. good place to go to clean your car (exterior/interior)? i was recommended srubadub in woburn, but maybe there is a place closer by that is also good?

7. any random fun things i forgot to ask about (restaurants/bars/hangouts, etc).

thanks for any tips! :)

Can someone recommend a reputable massage place in the Davis/Porter area? I need a gift certificate and I'd love to get an hour for under $100 (!). The recipient needs some good deep massage, but not anything like Rolfing, if you know what I mean.

Thank you!

I have officially opened my own massage business in Teele Square (which I hope is close enough to Davis to count for this community)!

Located in the Therapy Center for Mind & Body, Free Spirit Holistic Massage offers a soothing and healing blend of Therapeutic Massage, Shiatsu and Polarity. Each session is individually tailored to your needs, whether that be sports massage targetting specific tight, strained or injured areas; massage & energy work to help relieve chronic conditions such as headaches, migraines and fibromyalgia; or a getaway from all of life's stresses.

Rates are as follows:
1/2 Hour - $40
1 Hour - $60
1.5 Hour - $80

Get $10 off your first session when you mention that you found me through Livejournal!

Accepting clients Monday, Thursday & Friday 10am-8pm; Tuesday & Wednesday 6:30pm-8pm; and Saturday and Sundays by appointment. No walk ins please (unfortunately the center is not set up to accept them).

Please call Liz Angiello, LMT at 857-540-1077 or e-mail lizangiello at yahoo dot com if you'd like to schedule an appointment or for more information.

And on that note, I am currently offering Polarity & Zen Shiatsu sessions at a discounted price of $30/session (50-80 minutes). The reason I am doing this is that I recently finished courses in these modalities and am looking to perfect my skills before charging full price.

Polarity is a modality based on Ayurveda and other ancient healing arts. It uses very light touch to balance the elements of Ether, Air, Fire, Water and Earth in your body, so your body can better heal itself. Many clients report that polarity feels very dreamy and relaxing.

Zen Shiatsu is based on Traditional Chinese Medicine. It uses compression, stretches and direct pressure along the meridians in the body to balance the elements of Wood, Water, Earth, Fire and Metal. Many clients feel that shiatsu is deeply relaxing and they feel very refreshed and balanced afterwards.

This is an excellent opportunity for those on a tight budget who want or need bodywork! As above, please call 857-540-1077 or e-mail lizangiello at yahoo dot com for more information or to schedule an appointment.

1. What gyms are available in the Davis and Porter areas? I am not interested in Healthworks (not a fan of their gender-specific facilities, reverse sexism is sooo fifteen years ago), but I'm otherwise open to any suggestions.

2. I also need somewhere to get a decently priced professional massage in the area. Suggestions?

Thank you!
