Somerville Therapeutic Massage has been in business for a full year now! It's been a great ride. Last year when I opened the office I posted an announcement and sale here, and got overwhelming support from this community. I'd like to celebrate by offering another special deal to you. Between now and Thanksgiving, mention DSLJ and take 20% off any service I offer, including gift certificates and pre-paid packages.

Please see my menu of services at somervillemassage.com. Deep tissue massage, hot stones and body brushing are just a few of the services I provide. I also have expertise in working with pregnant women and athletes.

Email [email protected] to make an appointment. My offices are just ten minutes walk from Davis Square.

Thanks again for your support!

Hello, all,

Some time ago, my friend and colleague [livejournal.com profile] mattlistener and I posted about needing practice clients for the Rubenfeld Synergy Method, a bodywork modality involving both talk and touch, in which we are both working toward certification. Thanks in part to some of you, we're now a lot closer to that goal, and are both in our internship phase.

Our skills have grown and expanded, and we are now seeing clients for pay, at internship rates. I am seeing clients for $65/session, and would also like to offer packages of 5 sessions for $200.

Your body holds the story of your entire life. The Rubenfeld Synergy Method is a gentle yet powerful system for drawing out and coming to understand that story. Through gentle touch and open inquiry, we help you expand your bodily awareness, get in touch with hidden emotions, and achieve greater freedom of movement in your body and in your life.

Message me here for more details! And thanks.

When I opened my office last fall, I got such a wonderful outpouring of support from DSLJ.  I'm teaching infant massage classes now, and I hope you'll help me spread the word.  More info below.  Thank you!

Bond with your baby!  Learn how to safely touch your baby with Infant Massage.

Infant Massage Classes start June 8th with Sara Garvin, LMT at Somerville Therapeutic Massage.

Sara has been a licensed massage therapist since 2003.  Her calm, nurturing demeanor makes her well-liked by both parents and babies.  In this series of five classes, you’ll learn how to massage your baby, handle common issues such as colic and gas, meet other new parents and have fun!

Studies have consistently shown that babies who are massaged sleep better, hit developmental milestones faster, bond more closely with their families, and have reduced colic and crying.  Take advantage of this wonderful healing art and learn to massage your baby safely with Sara.

“I feel more confident that I can touch her in ways that are relaxing and comforting, and won’t hurt her.” –a recent Infant Massage graduate

Classes start on Wednesday, June 8th and run for five weeks.  The cost is $100, payable by cash, check, or Visa/MC.  There will be two class groups, one meeting at 3:00 and the other meeting at 6:00.  Each group will be capped at 5 parent/baby pairs, so contact Sara today!

To sign up for a class, please call 617-284-6150, or write to [email protected].

A friend's girlfriend (experienced massage therapist, but new to this area) has just opened her business on Rice St, Cambridge (off Mass Ave near Davis Square) and in honor of her first week, is offering an amazing 50% off, but it's only good if you book by the end of the day today. (Sorry I didn't get this posted sooner (it's been going on all week), but hey, there is still time.) Tell her you saw the post here on DSLJ so she knows what an awesome community this is and should join us. :)

Hi,

Where should I go for a massage in the area?

Nothing too crazy, but I do prefer tranquil surroundings, so Massage Therapy on Elm doesn't do it for me (although they are great for theraputic massages!).

I can go anywhere in Davis, Porter, or somewhere in walking distance.

Thank you!

Hello, [livejournal.com profile] davis_square!

We are Kamela Dolinova ([livejournal.com profile] dietrich) and Matt Ryan ([livejournal.com profile] mattlistener), two contributors and members of both the virtual and actual Davis Square community. We started [livejournal.com profile] boston_synergy to alert the community to events and session availability related to Rubenfeld Synergy Method, a dynamic body-mind healing technique that we are both studying.

I'm coming up on two of four years complete in my Rubenfeld Synergy training, and am in need of more volunteers to work on. If you're interested or have questions after reading the below, please drop me a line!

Practice clients will receive relaxing and self-awareness-enhancing sessions that include gentle hands-on and dialogue about what you're experiencing in your body, but do not (at this point in my training) explore deep emotions or life issues. The client is always fully clothed and is welcomed to stop or modify the session at any time if they feel uncomfortable.

My own background includes a Diploma in Counselling from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland (which teaches Client-Centered Therapy, aka Rogerian), as well as a 2-year program at the Muscular Therapy Institute in nearby Cambridge. Today I'm a Licensed Massage Therapist with a private practice based in my home office. My intention is to practice a healing discipline that makes use my talents both for "talking cure" therapy and for bodywork -- and Rubenfeld Synergy is definitely the most well developed discipline in that space.

Sessions at this point in my training are free of charge. Sometime in 2010 I will be able to get certified as a "Level 1" practitioner of Rubenfeld Synergy enabling me to set my own professional rates -- they're still working out the timeline.

To be eligible to be a practice client, a person:
- Can't be a "good friend". (eg one of us has visited the other's home, or we're on "hugs hello" terms.)
- Can't have seen me before in either my Massage Therapy or Counselling practices.
- Has not been hospitalized for a mental health issue or recent major injury.

My home office is near Ball Square in Somerville, a 12 minute walk east up the bike path from Davis. Please send an email to [mattryan at pobox dot com] if you'd like to discuss more. Or feel free to comment here if you'd like to post your questions publicly.

Diligent davis_square readers may recall a similar post from [livejournal.com profile] dietrich back in June -- we're in the same training program together. :-)

Hey guys. I'm new to this community and have lived in Davis for a couple of months. I've just started writing a blog for Massage Therapy Works in Davis and I thought you guys might be interested in it.

The blog is about natural living and holistic health care in the Boston area, and since MTW is in Davis, a lot of the entries are going to focus on places around the area. I've already written an entry about Cambridge Naturals (Porter, I guess, but close!) and O2 Yoga.

Here's the link if you guys want to check it out. http://www.massagetherapyworks.com/_blog/Boston_Healing_Blog

PS. I love this neighborhood. Best place to live in Boston by far!

Hello, Davis denizens! I've recently entered my second year of a four-year training in the Rubenfeld Synergy Method, a healing modality that combines gentle touch with dialogue to encourage the integration of body, mind, emotions and spirit. As part of my training, I will be seeing several practice clients over the next two years. Being a practice client is free; should you decide to stay with me throughout my training, I will begin charging student rates in my 4th year (two years from now) and regular rates once I am certified.

A short promotional video about the Method is here.

Sessions will take place at my home, near the intersection of Broadway and Route 16, until the end of August; thereafter, in Arlington just outside the Center.

I'm looking for information about getting a massage for some musculature pain in my neck and shoulder. I have been to physical therapy for it in the past, but I just need some immediate relief.

I'm looking for a massage place that's reasonably local and who would have an opening today. I'd prefer some place more clinical to somewhere new agey. I'm also looking in the 50-60 dollar price range for a massage that would actually help (30 minutes? 45?)

I'm also not sure what kind I'm looking for, when I was getting regular massages for physical therapy, it needed to be a fair amount of pressure, generally more than the small woman who was providing could manage.. so would that fall under deep tissue? or because it's an injury related thing should I be looking for something in that category?

Thank you!

Hey kids,
I know there's stuff in the memories and I am looking that over but want some extra info too, so!:

After a month of semi-rough traveling my back/neck/shoulders are a big twisted mess. I need a massage something fierce.

*and*

None of my pants fit! I need a tailor, particularly one decent with designer jeans.

In neither case is cost a huge concern. Being near the red line in camberville would be nice.
